The European version of the new 2008 Chevrolet Aveo has been unveiled at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show. This one will replace the Aveo hatchback known as Kalos in Europe and Aveo U-va in India. As per Chevy’s press release kalos will be renamed as Aveo and the 5-door hatch will be launched in Europe by march-2008 followed by the 3-door model a few weeks later.

This new Aveo has a more outgoing whole new face. While its hard to say its a stunner, it is way better than the peanut faced current one. A thick bodycolored beam with a Chevy emblem runs horizontally across and splits the otherwise absurdly huge grille into two (along the lines of American Chevy Malibu). The lines on either side of the grille are nicely carried onto the hood to form the bonnet V. Front & rear bumpers are new as well with bigger Clear glass headlights wrapping around the corners (lights are similar to those on the mid-sized Chevy Epica). Its wide honeycomb grille integrated rear bumper and new clear-glass tail lamps make the whole rear end look sportier.

The selling point of this car has never been the looks but the interior space, Fuel efficiency and practicality and it retains those. While most of its dimensions remain the same, it is 40 mm longer than the current model. For the powertrain, two DOHC petrol engines will be offered - a 84 bhp 1.2-litre which Chevy claims is 6% more fuel efficient and a 98 bhp 1.4-litre with an optional Automatic Transmission.
Note that the sporty extensions, sideskirts and big alloy wheels with low profile tires make the new Aveo in these photos look very good, but I’m sure these will never make it onto the production versions unless they offer a sport version. Though no details were released about when this car will go on sale outside of Europe, IMO we can expect it to launched here in mid-2008.
