Hyundai Getz a Facelift for its Prime

Hyundai Getz Prime Front

The Hyundai Getz has got almost everything that a premium hatchback should have, but still could never do well in the Indian market due to its higher pricing. To improve its condition in this class Hyundai gave Getz a facelift and added another engine variant to make it cheaper to buy and named it Getz Prime.

Hyundai went for an angular and edgy design this time. The major changes are angular & longer headlights, a new oval grille and slightly modified bumpers and bonnet to complement the new look. The rubber strips are thicker especially at the front and rear for bumper protection. Rest of car remains the same except for the tail lamp assembly.

The interiors are better than before with the dash made of better plastics. Fake aluminum on the centre console and the gear knob adds a touch of class. A storage shelf under the steering, door pockets, couple of cup holders and a cubbyhole allow for a lot of storage space. Lots of interior space is comparable to higher class sedans.

In addition to the previous 1.3 liter engine which makes 82bhp power at 5500 rpm and 117 Nm torque at 3200 rpm, Hyundai added a smaller 1.1 liter variant to qualify for the duty exemptions. This 1.1 liter Santro engine with minor mods and a tweaked ECU map ensures wider torque and power bands which improves the drivability in the city. Peak power is 66 bhp @ 5500 rpm and torque is 102 Nm @ 3200 rpm. As always the Getz compromises on handling for very good ride quality.

Its a practical and comfortable family car. The best thing about this car is its interior space, comfort and ride quality, its better than the Swift in these aspects if u compare it. About the engines, while the 1.3 is peppy enough and meets all the driving requirements of a practical man, the 1.1 is only adequate to get us through our daily driving and needs to be revved hard.
But if it is the ‘fun to drive’ factor u are looking for, then the 1.5 diesel version an absolute joy to drive.

While the fuel economy depends on each individual’s driving habits and traffic conditions, the accepted average fuel efficiency of each of these Getz models is:
    Getz 1.1: 12 kmpl
    Getz 1.3: 12 kmpl
    Getz 1.5 diesel: 14 kmpl
