Reportedly Fiat chose the 1.1L 8v engine to cut costs as it is very simple to build and is built by robot assembly plants. It’d definetely help if they did what you’ve said but the minimum capacity FIRE engine Fiat has in production with 16v is a 1242cc SMPFI, which would make the car even more expensive than the older Palio.
