Fiat Palio’s new Stile

Fiat Palio Stile Front

Fiat finally brought in the new Palio in the form of Stile. This car should have been here a long time ago which Fiat India couldn’t do because of it’s failure in the local market. They are depending on Tata motors this time to improve their customer service and support which was a major contribution to their failure.

The main design changes in the new face-lifted Palio are new front & rear bumpers, bigger double barrel headlamps, new tail lamps and a restyled bonnet. The new bumpers make the car 64mm longer. The interiors are better than before with a beige & brown dual tone dashboard and comfortable seats.

Fiat Palio Stile Rear

Though the exterior changes made the car look contemporary, I initially felt it had lost a part of it’s muscular stature. I wasn’t very happy with the rear end, but all that changed when I actually saw the car outside. The car still looks rigid & tightly packed.

The car comes with two engine variants 1.1l SOHC & 1.6l DOHC. They replaced the 1.2 with the 1.1 motor to qualify for the excise duty exemptions. It puts out a measly 57 bhp, but they say that engine is tuned for city driving meaning sufficient power throughout the low and mid rev range. Luckily for us enthusiasts Fiat still kept the 1.6l variant which we all love. No diesel motor for now.

With the after sales support taken up by Tata, lets hope things will be different this time around.

  1. 1 A well wisher of Fiat

Very surprising that in a market dominated by 1.1L 16V engine for smaller cars,a manufacturer of more than half a century puts a 8V car with 57PS on one tonne car. This mistake should be corrected asap with good interiors at least of Korean class as in Santro or Getz and 16V 1.1L++ engine. The price should be kept less than 3.5L+RTO Charges+Ins.

I can guarantee the success for Fiat-Tata alliance.

True!… the car is seriously underpowered. Reportedly Fiat chose the 1.1L 8v engine to cut costs as it is very simple to build and is built by robot assembly plants. It’d definetely help if they did what you’ve said but the minimum capacity FIRE engine Fiat has in production with 16v is a 1242cc SMPFI, which would make the car even more expensive than the older Palio.
I guess I’m being too optimistic.

How much is FE of this engine? It could not have been qualified for excise benefit. However,FIAT could give customer a choice which would have been better than FIAT Palio Stile Sport.

couldn’t find the latest info however 1.2 16v offered on a uk-spec fiat punto which weighs almost same as palio returns combined efficiency of (user claimed 15kmpl & manufacturer claim 16.5)

The palio stile is facing turbulent times because of lack in marketing statergy and high price as compared with other cars in the class. Some cost has to be cut down and performance to be improved to beat the competition.
